  • I’m back from a summer of writing. Also got to speak at the wonderful Interfaith Gathering of the DNC in Denver. http://www.dpdiscourse.org #
  • I explained how the practice of death penalty has paved the way to abuses of human rights in Abu Ghraib & torture of suspected terrorists. #
  • One reason I want Obama for president… #
  • …I trust he’ll nominate Supreme Court justices who care about international law, and who care for poor people and minorities. #
  • @kariapeterson Thank you. I’m looking forward to some real change. #
  • I’ve been thinking about Troy Davis, about to be executed in Georgia. His life is in the hands of the Supreme Court. #
  • 7 of 10 eyewitnesses have recanted, admitting they lied about Troy being the killer. And yet this court may let Troy die anyway. #
  • Why? Because they’ll say – as they have before – his lawyers should have filed the appeal earlier. This court lets procedure trump justice. #
  • @jokeefetrigg Great to see your tweets, too, jene. #

  1. Hi Sister,

I appreciate all the work you do for the poor and for ending capital punishment. I had the great honor of hearing you speak two years ago at the protest at the School of the Americas. Thank you for all your work.

However, I must admit I find it odd that Supreme Court justice appointments is one of the reasons why you would support Obama. While I understand many reasons to support him, he is assuredly going to appoint judges who will allow for the greatest injustice our nation has ever known to remain the law of the land. He vows to sign into law the Freedom of Choice Act, and will clearly appoint judges who will support Roe v. Wade. Surely you can’t support such a radical view on the right to abortion as Sen. Obama? While you might find several reasons to support him, I do hope at least that you lament the fact that his presidency will continue the horror of abortion in our nation for decades to come, and in fact, by signing the FOCA into law, he will remove many of the small advances of the pro-life movement over the past several years. Thoughts?

  2. Oh, by the way sister, last year our student pro-life group at Villanova University wrote letters to and on behalf of Cathy Henderson. It was because of your talk at the SOA that I became alerted to her cause, so thank you for that. Villanovans for Life continues to keep her cause in our prayers. Thank you for all your work in defense of life. I just hope and pray that one day all human life will be recognized as sacred, from conception until natural death. Our hearts and laws both need to be changed, so that in our hearts we recognize the dignity of all human persons, and in our laws we recognize the injustice of abortion, embryonic stem cell research, the death penalty, and many other affronts to human life that continue to be codified as the law of our land.

    Grace and Peace,
    Michael
