Why this song?

This song was released shortly after the Kent State Masssacre in 1970, when four, unarmed anti-war demonstrators on the university's campus were killed by the Ohio National Guard.

It feels so relevant today, and brings to mind the last, very short chapter of Timothy Snyder's On Tyranny, which goes like this:

Be as courageous as you can.

If none of us is prepared to die for freedom,
then all of us will die under tyranny.

- Rose

Lyrics

Find the cost of freedom buried in the groundMother earth will swallow you, lay your body down.
